mountains

May 11, 2016

This is a digital painting I worked on a month or two ago. I loved using the bright colors and working on the reflections in the water. It was great fun! What inspires you to create?

Below you see my original photograph from which I got the idea to paint the above digital art. Although the Ko’olau Mountains are inspiring they are a challenge to photograph on a day when the sky is dark with clouds, the air is thick with vog and the water is churned up and brown. However with imagination and creativity the scene can be changed into something bright and beautiful.

Images taken on a 6 mile hike to the Bird Sanctuary at Kaena Point. Such a beautiful area. The winter weather brought us some spectacular waves and beautiful skies. The challenge was keeping the salt spray off my lens filter. Oh, and of course, keeping from loosing my slippers in the sticky mud.

Island Mornings, Fine Art Nature Photography, Soft Focus, Small Print

Island Mornings, Fine Art Nature Photography, Soft Focus, Small Print

I get so excited about winter arriving because the nice bigger waves bring out more surfers than usual. That’s my favorite sport to photograph for the time being. Why? Because, unlike football, I won’t accidentally be tackled while sitting on the sidelines. The other reason being that it is such a fun challenge to try to compose an image when they are moving so fast. So why aren’t I exhibiting photo’s of surfers in this post???

We went to several beaches on the north side of the island looking for surfers. Found none until we passed by Hale Ewa. By then I had given up because the morning sky was covered in thick clouds and the rain was showing no signs of stopping. As my husband drove us home we saw a little break in the clouds. So we decided to pull over when we found a picnic area. I took hundreds of photos for practice. After a few hours there was enough sunshine to take these 2 photographs. In the second photo I wanted to inject my feelings about the entire morning. So after a bit of work I chose to finish it off with a Nik filter.

I am almost caught up! Here is my October 2015 post. Stop by my shop Sensing Majesty anytime! I try to reply to any questions or comments within 24 hours.

If you see something you think you’d like to buy and the link says the item isn’t available. Well, just ask me and I’ll pop it back up there for you. I hope you are having an absolutely wonderful day!

I found this tiny crab scurrying back and forth as it tried to build its home. It was so cute to watch. He almost looked like he is whistling while he works. Maybe if the ocean hadn’t been so loud I would’ve heard him whistling “Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it’s off to work we go”. Ha ha!

I enjoyed visiting the beach park to get a shot of this interesting peninsula. It was a very hazy day. I like the black and white shot but, I really like the sky in color. Maybe I should work on this more and make a black and white with a color sky all in one. Sounds like work though, ha-ha!

When I noticed that I was hiking on a cushioned trail. I bent over to check these green tufts under my shoes. It was a treat to see a beautiful little world of moss. So I took this macro photograph to share.

The speed limit was so slow that I was able to make a panoramic photo of the Makua Valley as my husband drove us past it. He stopped later and I got out of the car and set up a nice shot. However I liked this one better. Sometimes I choose the quick photo with the point and shoot over the one that I work on with my more advanced camera. I like that.

Oh, this is actually the back of my head! I was sending a thank you photo to my children who gave me this hair-stick. It was a challenge to take this picture! Thanks to a mirror and lots of time I finally did it. Then I thought, “Cool! I should play with this and see what kind of photo art I can make from it”. That’s the story behind this picture. Thought you might want to know why in the world someone would take a picture of the back of their head.

Every time we open my booth at the Aloha Stadium Flea Market my husband and I get to see the sunrise as we head over there. That is my absolutely favorite part of setting up for a show. To me, God’s glorious sunrises are a reminder of how he treasures me enough to give me a beautiful clean start to the day. *His mercies are new every morning ~  Lamentations 3:22-24*

Playing Catch up during the Christmas season is nearly an impossible game to win. However I’ve sorted things in folders and hope to catch up before year’s end. 🙂

I had time to process only 2 public images during September. I had some memorable family snapshots to sort through.

One is of a small part of the Makua valley on Oahu. I was out scouting interesting perspectives of some well-known views of the island’s undeveloped areas. Although city developments can be beautiful, I favor gazing at nature.

The second photo I had time to process was this of a surfer who just stepped out of the water for the day. He looked tired and satisfied. The image gives me the feeling of a day well spent. I love days like that. When I have spent my time doing what God has created me to do. That is sharing my joy from knowing Him.

OK, it is obvious that I have no work to show for August. Life became a little hectic with moving to a new city but still close to our old home. My husband and I really like our new place.

Our new neighbors are friendly and giving people.

It is a delight to hear the children playing ball and riding bikes outside while I work.

The property grounds and park areas are kept by some respectful, friendly people.

We have a little spot for me to garden and a lanai to sit outside and eat lunch.

The flowering trees and bushes all around the property make for wonderful aromas in the morning and evening.

The monkey pod trees and giant ivy are a welcome sight when driving down our boulevard.

The beautiful waterfall is a delight to hear and see as I walk past.

I look out at the mountains and palm trees when I wake in the morning and thank God for being able to live here.

I am inspired every morning to hurry and take care of what needs to be done so that I can start working on my photos and art.

Sigh, the only thing keeping me from thinking this is heaven is that my adult children and their spouses aren’t here with us. I LOVE YOU my dear children! Hugs and kisses. Your dad and I can’t wait to fly out and see you guys!!

Here is the Short Link for sharing this page.

My fine art nature photography from June 2015. They are for sale in my Etsy shop at the link below. The images for this month are from some walks I took a months ago. Due to a bummed knee, I haven’t been able to hike or take any stairs per Dr’s. orders. I’ve been in physical therapy a few weeks now and I am enjoying seeing the progress. Yay!

A fun trail – the Aiea Loop. It was muddy and pretty narrow in some spots. Trying not to use my tripod as a walking stick in one hand. In the other hand trying to keep my camera fairly clean. My husband and I had lots of laughs.

This photo was taken at one of my favorite picnic spots near home. I love watching the people on the water. My husband, John, and I watch them, then we eat. After that we walk along the beach toward the sunset. After sunset we head home to watch the city lights flicker from the living room window while I sift through my newly collected sea glass as John Dear relaxes.

This was intended to be a long blurred exposure of some eucalyptus trees. It didn’t work as I had intended so I used several techniques in processing to get it to look how I wanted. Now the correct term for this image would be photo art. I will keep practicing with long-exposure, blurred images. Until then I thought although this is different from what I wanted; it turned out really nice. It can be hung vertically or horizontally.

This is the same image as the green one above, with an extra process that I used to turn everything blue. I think it looks like such a peaceful blue photo of water. So I guess this would be called photo art instead of photography. I’m fine with that.
